Why?
What's so great about it?

"Sunset Boulevard" by Billy Wilder.
It is a must!
It is the most important movie ever — for someone who
likes movies. It shows an old silent-movie Star, who
doesn't understand that times have changed. It is a
tragedy and a comedy in ONE PIECE!!! There are
many great movie-stars involved. And there is excellent
music in it. No "score" I say: MUSIC!!! (by Franz Waxman)...

There is an old creepy butler with a German accent and
a dead monkey and a swimming pool with rats...
And there are more things to come.... creepier.
But it is also good comedy and a movie with pictures
never seen before... (the dead body in the pool who tells
the story of Norma Desmond). And there is also shown
a love-story...

Steel Magnolias. It's a southern classic and it makes me laugh and cry and I just like it a whole lot. Also Passion of the Christ because it's incredible. And It's A Wonderful Life because it's a classic and it's a great lesson. And who can resist Jimmy Stewart's voice? I also think everyone should see My Fair Lady, Beauty and the Beast, and Sleepless in Seattle. And Forrest Gump!!

Off the top of my head:

Once were warriors

This movie will leave you thinking about it for days. Its images will stay with you forever. It's based in New Zeland, and it's about a Maori family (the Maoris are the native people of NZ). It covers issues such as alcohol abuse, gang violence, suicide, and domestic violece. The domestic violence theme is covered so rawly that you will have NO CHOICE but to be affected. I can't even begin to explain the feeling you experience during those scenes. It's BRILLIANTLY acted out and directed.

You will most likely find it at your local video store in the foreign film section.

The Cure (with Brad Renfro) is another one.
It will bring tears to your eyes. It's about a young boy that gets Aids due to a contaminated blood transfusion, and how his friend sets out to help him find a cure.

Stand By Me...Everyone knows this one is a classic as is

It's a Wonderful Life...I hope they never remake this one. It makes you think about how one life truly does affect many lives, and gives you a sense of purpose.

There's many many more...

so many great movies, and depends on the genre:

comedy: superstar because i thought it was will ferrel's best performance in a movie ever, and it's so funny with all the memorable quotes you'll be saying for days! "SUPERSTAR!"

romance: the notebook, which is a classic and a favorite of so many with a great plot line that's so romantic and sad and great.

horror: don't watch too many horror movies, actually none really. the last one i saw was hide and seek, and i thought it was a fairly decent movie, that when the end came i was all "no way!" so i liked that

Napoleon Dynamite because it's so funny, and has awesome quotes to use in your everyday life.
Also, Lady in the Water, because it has a good storyline, no matter what anybody says. I loved the movie. It only got bad reviews because it was an M Night Shamylan film so everyone expected it to be scary. I swear, people these days can't appreciate a good story.

Gone with the Wind is everything you want in a movie all wrapped up into one! It's simply a classic.

For quirky humor, I would say Napoleon Dynamite. It gets funnier everytime I see it.... especially after the credits!

Airplane! is another classic comedy... funny all the way through.

The Sixth Sense is very well done and kept me guessing.

Terms of Endearment is the best tear jerker of all time!

cause everytime you see it you see something else and there are so many ways to interupt the movie. I also think in the future it will be one of those movies that will be a classic.
