the electric would be easier for a couple of reasons. 1)the strings are much stiffer and therefore harder to hold down on an acoustic.2) sliding his fingers will be much easier on the electric because the strings tend to be a bit smoother. 3)depending on your sons age and size, he will probably be better able to fit his arms around the electric because of its thinner size.as for the sound on your ears, the electric would still be better, because if he plays withiut an amp the sound is far lower, plus with almost all amps there is a plug in for headphones. hope that helps.

The neck of an electric is more narrow than that of an acoustic guitar making the strings closer to each other. Also, it's easier to hold a string down on a fret. To answer the question it is easier to learn on an electric guitar. Electric guitars and aplifiers like all electronic equipment need special care. It'll be good for him to learn that early on.

It's better to start with an acoustic. Since he's just a beginer he doesn't know yet what guitar he likes. As soon as he becomes better in playing he'd know what kind of guitar he likes. That is the time you buy him and electric guitar. He can choose the brand and the aspecs of the guitar. Weather he like 24 frets or higher, regular bridge or floyd rose, 2 or more pickups, etc. He'd also know what amp would be better for that guitar.

I have played the guitar for many years and I HIGHLY recommend that he start with an acoustic to learn the basics of notes and chords and practice discipline and commitment no matter what style of music he wants to learn and you should also buy him books of notes, scales, and chords but don't let him try to learn all that on his own. He may lose interest fast because its not always easy to learn music from a book. do him a BIG favor and find him a GOOD teacher who will teach him the basics of music of any and all styles and will teach him that no one gets to be a "rock star" overnite. if, after 1 year your son still picks it up every day and plugs away at it then he will be ready for an electric guitar or a more expensive acoustic, depends on what music style or artist / band he wants to learn....also, you did not tell us his age. we may give you better info if we knew how old he was and you should understand that your patience, support, and encouragement will go a long way in seeing how well he does so good luck and best wishes to you and your son <> signed, Lennerd Skinnerd

it depends on what kind of music he wants to play, i started on electric then got an old acoustic i had had for ages strung and serviced and had no problems playing it. if he wants to play solos and stuff electric would be the go...

just don't get a classic/nylon string guitar, the strings are alot more finger friendly for beginners but if he wants to play an acoustic or electric after that then it'll take a lil while for the fingers to toughen up

It doesn't matter. I've known people who learned both ways. Most go for the acoustics first, for several reasons. They're quieter, so you won't suffer so much while he's learning. They're not dependent on a power supply and so are usable in recreational areas like beaches and parks. And as you pointed out, they can be cheaper. But a good acoustic isn't.

acoustic first then electric if he wants to learn how to play it doesnt matter as long as he can do the runs ans reading music is the best way to lean playing anything If he wants to play he will
learn no matter what he plays with a old guitar or a real expensive one if he really wants to learn and he has the desire he will learn. Money never bought skills , time and alot of practice
The money thing sounds as if you think it will make a it sound better that comes later Trust me

It really depends on what he wants to learn. Eventually, he will play both, but if he likes rock, then start him out on electric. If he's into country and classical stuff, then start with acoustic. A guitar is a great instrument to learn.....buy him BOTH if you can!

I once tried to learn with accoustic and didn`t continue cause the comfort and the size got in the way.Strings were hard to nail down and were hurting like hell and the body was getting in the way! I then tried with electric: the stem was narrower, body flat , and the touch was way smoother ; so much that I could play for hours! Plus I bought a pedal with several sounds & effects wich made my playing much more enjoyable. I have to say that classic & accoustic are very nice as well, but in my particular case electric changed my life!

I play the guitar and have been playing for a long time. I recommend a nice beginner accoustic like a Yamaha or Fender maybe and get some chord books for him to practice the chords and strum patterns. Go to a Guitar Center or your nearest music store and someone should be able to help you. I hope that he has lots of fun learning to play.
