original horrow movie remakes? the omen, the hills have eyes, texas chainsaw massacre, amityville horror. so far, to me, the new ones may have better special effects, but dont give the same scares as the original, its just about gore. and they dont even keep the stories the same anymore...is anyone else tired of this?

That's all the new movies are... special effects. The acting is dry and unreal, the script sounds like a second grader wrote it, and they just suck. Take War of the Worlds for example. The original was phenomenal!!!! The acting was great, the plot was great, the whole thing was great. In the new one with pretty boy Tom Cruise, the only thing that was great, were the special effects. That's it. In my opinion, writers these days are tapped out. They have nothing original to contribute to society, so they piggy-back off of another writers success and glory hoping to reap in some of the same by only tweaking the story here and there. It suck and I am sick and tired of it!

I couldn't agree more. Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper did so much on a shoestring budget for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That movie is probably the creepiest I have ever seen and there really isn't much blood and gore. Just the soundtrack and the cinematography is so raw and chilling. Horror movies today are all about cheap scares that work one time in the theater. Too many movies today are just about creepy little kids or haunted houses. I will say that I am looking forward to Benicio Del Toro in the remake of "The Wolf Man". I'm a huge werewolf movie nut. I just hope they don't make a piece of crap like "Cursed". I mean you put Wes Craven and Rick Baker together and "that" was all they could come up with. Shameful.

Yes and no. I really think that Hollywood is not making such great movies in general.

I think that many film makers think that if they amaze you with a lot of special effects then that’s all they need to get your money. I think they really need to start backing up all the special effects with some good plots and good acting!

So the same goes for the horror movies! All gore and effects but no plot or suspense!!!

Well, the remakes are not as good because you are aware of what is about to happen. Sure the actors might be better, they might be prettier to look at, there are more special effects... but the true point of a horror movie is the scare. And if you know what is coming, how can you be terrified???

OMG YES!!!!!!!!!

Please, please make it stop...

Gore and CGI don't make movies better, I mean come on. Those movies were scary without all of that and it just galls me that because they can't come up with a new horror flick to trump these, they just remake them instead.

Now they are messing with Halloween, not technically a remake, calling it a prequel but sheesh.

This insanity has to stop. I don't go see remakes at the theater. I have rented only 2 remakes and was ready to hurl my tv out the window at both. I refuse to give them money on the rest of em.

Yeah, I'm tired of it. I don't see most of them because I would rather watch the originals. I was just watching A Nightmare on Elm Street the other day and wishing that Hollywood would make decent horror movies like that again with maybe new monsters that aren't stupid and mindless teen slasher flicks.

the Real point is .....Scary movies just ARENT SCARY anymore

Just the other day, I saw "The Descent"---and LAUGHED the whole way through it. ---I'm the same kid who used to be scared of the dark and could actually "laugh" thorough this supposed horror film.

As far as you question is concerned--It's sad but true---And all these remakes suggest a lack of originality

I can't stand them! They are always worse than they seem. I bought the remake of Amnityville Horror and shut it off twenty minutes into it. If you remake something, keep it as true to the original as possible.

Yes! I thought I was the only one who is sick of this - the remakes of Amityville and Carrie particularly annoyed me - those were classics!

Yes! Why remake the classics? You can't beat them, so they're just asking for a crappy result. Come up with some of your own ideas, movie makers!
