#1 = Bobby Doerr (14 years with Red Sox, HOF)
#4 = Joe Cronin (24 years with Red Sox, including as Manager, HOF)
#8 = Carl Yastrzemski (23 years with Red Sox, HOF)
#9 = Ted Williams (19 years with Red Sox, HOF)
#27 = Carlton Fisk (11 years with Red Sox, HOF)
Anyone sensing a theme? Red Sox retired numbers must have played at least 10 years with Red Sox and be elected to the Hall of Fame.
#42 = Jackie Robinson (the exception to the rule....his number 42 is retired on every team....Mo Vaughn was the last Red Sox player to wear the number....a great tribute considering Mo was one of the best recent Red Sox players and the Red Sox were the last team in the major league to have a black player on their roster).

which number is Cy Young? I know his should be retired because he was great, and won many games for Boston.
He was, in six seasons with Boston:
192-112
275 Completed Games
38 Shutouts
9 Saves
2,728.1 innings pitched
34 Homers allowed
299 walks allowed
1,341 strikeouts
1.99 ERA in 297 Starts and 327 overall appearances
keep in mind, that was just six years. He finished his career with a 511-316 record, 2.63 ERA, 749 Completed Games, 76 Shutouts, 17 saves, 7, 356 innings pitched, 138 homers allowed, 1,217 walks, and 2,803 strikeouts!
All-time MLB wins leader with 511
The Cy Young Award is named after him
The guy could pitch! He simply know how to deal!!!
