A very simple way to understand this:
Imagine you are at home...there are 8 in your family. You hear someone attempting to break in...you do not have a phone to call for help so you must decide amongst yourselves what to do to protect yourselves from the intruders who have guns...4 of you want to do one idea, the other 4 don't...you start to bicker back and forth, each wanting it done their way...minutes are passing by and you are unaware the intruder in now in the house...because you are still bickering as to who's idea is the best way...If the 8 of you would have made a decision and stuck together to work on one plan, the intruders wouldn't have gotten in and wouldn't have done the harm to all of you. You all were not united...you were divided. Hence the term, "United we stand, Divided we Fall"

The correct wording of the phrase is:"United we stand, DIVIDED we fall."
Think of twigs in a bundle. One twig breaks easily. 12 twigs in a bundle, do not snap as easily. Fifty twigs in a bundle is almost, if not completely, impossible to break.
That's what it means. When we as a nation are in agreement, we stand united in purpose. When we fight and bicker amongst ourselves over this, that, and the other, we are divided in purpose and it is easier for an outside force to defeat us.

I believe that a lot of people have issues with other people in this country, but in the end we are all Americans. THAT MEANS A HELL OF A LOT TO ME AND IF YOU MESS WITH A LAW ABIDING AMERICANS REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL STANCE, THEN BE PREPARED TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES.
