Open a folder
Go to Tools
Choose Folder Options
Choose the View Tab
In advanced settings toggle off the Hide extensions for known file types
Click apply to all folders

In Windows XP... double-click "My Computer". Click "Tools" then "Folder Options". Click the "View" tab. Uncheck the box next to "Hide extensions for known file types". Hope that helps!

set your files to be viewed in Details View, once you are in details view its all heaven from there you can sort by date, author, time, accessed, modified plus 40 other options. To do this right click on the top toolbar of the folder you are currently in and select details view. Once in details view right click again on the same toolbar and you will have many options.
