Any inexpensive group tours? Do you know of any cheap flights? I am traveling from Columbus, OH to Lima. I want to stay a week and a half to two weeks. Unless in a tour, I will be traveling alone. Any suggestions?

You should try first this links:

Peruvian Embassy
http://www.peruvianembassy.us/ you could check up if there's any consulate near your area that you could go personally, I checked it out but I couldn't find one.

Then you should definitely check the Prom Peru site, this is the government organism in charge of promoting the country this is the website http://www.peru.info/perueng.asp it has everything you'll need to know about cheap flights, tours and everything you need to travel to Peru.

Suggestions of places to visit are Lima, Cuzco (Machu Pichu), Huaraz, The Amazon (Iquitos), Arequipa, Puno, Cajamarca, Huancayo and Ayacucho.

Everyone loves Peruvian food and with good reason, here is a Peruvian restaurant in Columbus Ohio (I don't know any more, I live in Maryland). You could check it out before you travel:

Garcia's Restaurant
2573 North High Street
Columbus, Ohio 43202
614.246.8008

Hope this helps you

If you're over 50, one of the best bargains going is the Overseas Adventure Travel's "Affordable Peru," with an extension or two. It's a small group and you don't have to worry about the details.

We've been to Peru 4 times, 3 on tours and once on our own in contact with a guide there. It's a fabulous place to visit.

Walking the Inca Trail is a bit of disappointment to many, as it is difficult and not all that clean (at least not a couple years ago). But there are trains and even helicoptors that will take you to Machu Picchu, which is a must-see. Do plan on spending at least one night there. You don't have to stay right at the top, but can stay in Agua Calientes at its foot.

I have family there in Lima Peru'. June July is the south American winter. Not too cold in Lima since you are at sea level. But the weather will trick you. Very damp. The 59c.15c will seem a lot colder (but I am from Texas so what would I know). I have a brother-in-law that drives a cab and he can drive you to safe spots and will not charge you an arm and a leg. I love to go to Nazca in the south and caraz in the north. very safe and not a lot of tourist. if you need any more info, please feel free to ask.

You are wise to be asking questions and considering your options early.

One of the things you should be sure to arrange for is travel insurance. Lots of things can go wrong and you will be glad you have this inexpensive insurance. I suggest you get it independently - not through an airline or a travel agent. That way there in no chance of a conflict of interest. The industry leader is TravelGuard. Go to http://www.wavehelp.com/travel-medical/index.htm and click on the red phone booth. You'll go to a page that shows you your options. Remember to buy the trip insurance within the first two weeks after you put down your first deposit of money for your trip - gets you some extra insurance benefits at no extra cost.

Best wishes.

If you do not go on a tour group, go north instead of south. Southern Peru would be colder in June and July. Remember, when it is summer here it is winter there. Northern Peru also is not as well traveled. I recommend Trujillo, Chan Chan, Sipan, Chiclayo (my wife's hometown), Cajamarca, Tucume and Lambayeaque. That area would be similar to Southern California in winter, mild temps.

If youre not in a tour, try visiting some of the big cities. Lima, Arequipa, Cuzco are beautiful for their culture, buildings, and in general everything. If you decide to go to Cuzco and Macchu Picchu, try the Incan Trail. You walk through the mountains to Macchu Picchu as the Incans did. You walk and sleep on the mountains. Its very beautiful.

An hour much less in mattress, as a results of fact my dogs would not understand something on the subject of the clocks going forward and could nonetheless desire to bypass over the park at his "well-known" time, observed by utilising his breakfast!!
