lots of aquarium fish do especially ones like goldfish that the parents lay the eggs or have the fry and they are on their own.

Yes! Years ago, we had goldfish in the pond and we were horrified to note that the parents ate their own children! Place the spawning parents in a screen so that the baby fry can swim out to safety but not the voracious parents.

Yes, goldfish do eat their own eggs and young if left within the tank or pond.
The adult fish are separated after the spawning process and the eggs attach to the tanks or artificial setup they are in.

when you are trying to breed make sure that you have
more than enough plants to hide in
even though parents eat eggs and fry you will still probably have more than enough babies (a female can lay tens of thousands
of eggs at one spawning)
