I caught the end of Mythbusters and saw them put dry ice in a 2 liter bottle with water and it exploded. They were saying earlier in the show they mixed soda and candy.... what happened? Did it explode? What kind of candy and soda was it? They were saying it was totally safe and I'd like to do something like that with my son to introduce him to science. Any info would be great.

Diet coke and Mentos. It works. There is video on the net you can watch.

These guys were on Letterman recently. This isn't footage of that, but they did do this act on the show.

Ah yes--the soda fountain. Diet soda--we used Diet Pepsi but Diet Coke works as well-- and Mentos mints work well. We did that at the end of the school year for our 1st graders--it was very cool. The only thing is that the Mentos don't fit in the neck of the soda bottle unless you break them up--but you still get the cool effect nonetheless. If you try it--make sure you get out of the way after you drop the mints--it reacts fast.

Use Diet Coke and Mentos--put a few in a two-liter and it should work. Try putting the cap on with different tightnesses or not at all to see what works best for you. Good luck, and this sounds like an awesome approach. ;) Hope I helped!

They checked out the diet coke/mentos thing to see if it really works...it did and then they tried to figure out what it was that was making it explode like that. I can't remember what it was now....I wanna say it was the aspartame (artificial sweetener) but not sure.
