They make bug bombs to deal with those insects. Just be sure to keep the birds or dogs out of that room when fogging it. As for the rats--that very tricky. They are very smart rodents.

If I were you, get him a gift certificate to a pest control company. They may be the only ones who can rid his house of all three, without harm to the other pets.

Good luck!

All people like frogs and amphibians. Women want to act alert when rats, bees, wasps, roaches, and spiders appear out of no where because those little freaks are so ugly and such a threat. Snakes are also disliked more than frogs. The only time frogs can be a problem is when they're over populating, or when they won't stop laying eggs in swimming pools. So just because women don't want those pests near them, doesn't mean they're crazy or less mentally stable during those moments.

Your friend is lucky to have you for a friend! Having worked in pest control for over 25 years it sounds like you may possibly be getting yourself into a project that may be too large for you to handle alone. My suggestion would be to see if the county or city has a place you can go to that will help him out. Secondly, a fumigation consists of tarping a home and is extremely toxic. You would have to be out of the home for many hours when done and then it MUST be cleared before anyone returns. Fumigation's are usually quite costly. I think you would just need to have the home exterminated. First off, you will need to clean his place up. After cleaned up, the animals (including birds) must be out of the home for several hours. If there is a large rat problem, it can lead to a flea problem as well. Sanitation is conducive to rat, mice and roach problems. As far as roaches go - different roaches require different control methods so they need to be identified before treating. If the roaches have been there for a long time special equipment is needed to get the chemical between the walls and void areas as well. A professional has been trained on where to spray, has the equipment necessary, and in my state a lot of chemicals are restricted to licensed applicators. This way different chemicals can be used. Many times the ones bought over the counter have been used so often that the pests are immune to them. GOOD LUCK!

Spiders leave when you sit a hedgeapple in a room. So first remove the pets for the day. Take them all to your home for free keep. (happy birthday present number 1)

Then fumigate the home with the proper fumigators for the right problems.

Buy shake away rat repellent.
Pay for a maid service to clean up his act.

Pesticides are very dangerous and bad for you're health. he may have allergies to certain chemicals that he is not aware of, so I wouldn't take that avenue. For the rats I recommend he gets a couple of cats-I hope he is not allergic to cats-yes you can rent cats that will kill rats and mice for you. As for spiders, they are not likely to bite-unless he is certain of the species-if he really doesn't want them-they are very useful in eating flies and mosquitoes-he can knock down the webs when they aren't sitting on them and clean up any dust then the spiders won't resettle. As for cockroaches, they have been around a million or so years...I would recommend he goes around the outside of his house and plug up any cracks he sees, inside and out. Sprays and fumigation are both expensive, at times ineffective, bad for health of people and environment. There are safe, natural and safe ways to be rid of unwanted guests. Please make sure he exhausts all those avenues first.

Odd birthday present, unwrapping a box of roach, rat and spider poison.

I have the big American cockroaches that come in from outside and I've found putting Combat gel in the paste tube in the crevices very effective on them. You can buy nontoxic diatomaceous earth and dust the crevices with it.

I like to use the anticoagulant bars of rat poison, but it needs to be put where the dogs won't get it. You can stuff steel wool into holes they are using to stop them. Rodents also hate the smell of peppermint. So you could use liquid castile soap with peppermint oil to clean to discourage them after reducing the clutter.

55% malathion spray and ortho home defense are suppose to be effective against spiders and roaches.

Be warned though, if your friend has compulsive hoarding tendencies, he may throw very little out, and he may be feel like you're stepping on his toes if you press him on cleaning.

The very best thing to do is get his animals out of the house for about four hours. Buy fumigator cannisters from Home Depot or Lowe's and set them off as directed. If you don't there is no guarantee short of hiring an exterminator company, that will insure success.
