I must admit the last year my children went to a new school...I check marked "no paddling" because I was afraid of giving that control over to someone else besides myself.....not trusting them I guess...but half way through the year and the TROUBLE I saw my sons giving those poor teachers...I went back to the school and changed my decision! It was the BEST thing I have done yet this year! I have not sent my kids to a school where they didn't paddle...I am ALL for paddling when it's needed!

Corporal Punishment in Schools - what a contentious issue.
This contraversial question has been raised by Students, Teachers and Politicians. There are yays and nays from all sides. As a parent of two school aged children, the prospect of someone else administering punishment on my children (if they ever deserved it) concerns me greatly. In Australia, the cane was the principle implement used in both primary and secondary schools. It was banned in the late 1980's. No schools are permitted to cane students.
I have heard it said that kids run the schools, and the streets and have no respect for authority. It is also said that discipline begins in the home - but what discipline? Is it discipline as teaching, instruction and guidance or is it physical discipline that may if threatened instill feelings of dread into a potential delinquent? Or is a combination of both?

My personal opinion is yes and no. No, they shouldn't use a paddle, per se. But, yes, they should have the authority to use something. My preference would be a quarter inch dowel rod, not a paddle. Paddles have broad surfaces and could land on the tail bone and accidentally cause neurological damage. Also, it's easier to strike too hard with a broad surface like a paddle, where a dowel rod would snap if swung too hard, protecting the child from abusive swings while still administering an effective sting.

no, I dont think teachers should be able to use a paddle. sadly enough in todays society, too much could happen because of it.
In the old days, it was normal and accepted. My mom told me stories of the Nuns smacking her across her hand with a ruler. But nowdays, it's gotten to a point that kids have more rights than adults. An adult could go to jail for paddling a child, especially on the behind because it would be inappropriate. but think about it. Todays kids are way out of control and dont listen to their parents. I used to believe in a "swat" on the behind if a child was bad, but nowdays they can call the police andhave you put away. I'm not talking about beating the crap out of a child or leaving a mark, but good old discipline, nothing wrong with it.
It would be great to see officials having authority to do that, but with all the sickos out there, i dont know.
i say, child bad, call the parent let them deal with it. (even though half the parents dont give a crap, they just want tomake more money) dont even get me started...LOL

No, I think that is not a good idea. No one should lay a hand on someone elses child, especially with a hard wooden stick that can hurt or even damage a child.
The parents should be called and if the child is really a case, sent home until the parent can get them under control.

if the students are still in pre school they can paddle them but they should limit the pain.but in the secondary stage, students have the feeling of anger so the best thing to do is to talk to them one on one ang ask them the problem, do the reverse pschycology.

No.
Corporal punishment is ineffective. It simply teaches children to solve conflict with aggression, leading to more behavioural problems down the track. PLus there's always the potential for abuse and long-term damage if it is done incorrectly.

Never. Physical punishment (spanking) is an individual decision that ONLY parents should decide for their children. Outsiders should never have the right to discipline kids in this way.
