I played clarinet in concert band for 8 years, and in marching band for 4 years. I played altosax in jazz band for 3 years, and tenor sax in jazz band for 3 years. I also took music theory, but I can't remember any of it. Music was my life from middle school to highschool. Good for you that you are in marching band. It is a good hobby.

I played the coronet from 5th grade to my senior year. I started pep band in middle school (which didn't happen very often in my school to allow middle schoolers to play) and throughout high school. When I was in the 9th grade I lived in Arizona and had the most incredible band teacher ever. He used to be a drum and bugle corp instructor before that. He was strict, but it was well worth it. That year I was the only girl in an all boy coronet/trumpet line, and was 4th chair (which wasn't bad considering the talent I was up against). I beat them all out for a solo and was able to play the flugal horn in front of 15,000 people in a California band competition where we took first place and 3 judges stood up during my solo and clapped, then they were disqualified (true, I have the newspaper clipping that says so, lol). I was also apart of the concert band all through out my band years. I was in Honor's band twice and the All State Lion's Band once in 1983 and we went to Hawaii for 2 weeks and came in 1st place there. Band was my life, and I failed to keep up with it after I graduated. I mostly have either been 1st or 2nd chair besides my year in Arizona. I miss it a lot and get quite nostalgic when I talk about it. I now am teaching my daughter how to play the coronet and hope she too will have the same rewarding experiences I did with it.
Oh, I noticed I forgot to mention that, yes, I was in marching band from middle through high school and also in Jazz band through high school...how forgetful...I loved it!!!

I was in high school. I was a majorette in marching band. I played alto sax in concert, pep and all-county band.
BAND IS LIFE! It was such a great experience for me and all my friends. You will notice 10 years from now that you will be talking about your memories to all your friends.
A lot of people call us "dorks" or whatever, but it's statisitically proven that people in band are smarter than the average student.
