There is no such thing as "hypothetical". The only "hypothetical" (to use your same word) thing is the mind of the person asking the question. Everything is in relation to the inquirer's state of mind. For instance, when you go to the zoo and see the lion in the cage, is the lion in the cage to protect us from it or is the lion in the cage to protect it from us? Everything depends on the glass that it's been looked through. So, grab a hot cup of Joe and reflect on that for a sec.
