I just thought it was a hilarious horror--Not at all scary in the least bit.

I look at it this way--most anyone can "take themselves out of" any horror film and render themselves immune to the scares (I usually do it by thinking of the filmmaking process and how much fun it was for all involved with all the prosthetics and fake blood and all that). Now, when a horror film is bad, everyone is "taken out of it" anyway, but I think it's silly when people deliberately "take themselves out" of the movie and think they're being "cool" by proving that they're not scared. That's like riding a roller coaster with your eyes firmly shut and grabbing onto the bar tightly; you're depriving yourself of the fun. Why deny yourself the enjoyment? Hop along for the ride and let your guard down. It's just a film.

Another point I'd like to make is that sometimes, laughter is a very much acceptable and desired reaction to a horror film--not necessarily because the film is bad, but it's because it's our natural reaction to such a scare. A horror movie is essentially a prank we're pulling on our senses, making us feel we're in danger when in fact--surprise!--we're not about to be eaten by cave dwelling mutants. Laughter at a horror film--well, some laughter--isn't always a negative indicator of quality.

I didn't laugh because when they were squeezing through those little bitty holes I was freaking. The 'monsters' were not much but the caving had me going. I guess I'm more claustrophobic than I thought. But I do agree that the previews were much scarier than the movie.

that stupid movie was nothing but a pathetic ripoff of deliverance, with chicks in a cave, intead of men on a river. they even dressed the indian chick, who played the burt reynolds character, who is also part indian, in a sleeveless neoprene vest.
