I have a speech about poverty in two days. My voice is extremely soft, I stutter when I'm nervous and I'm not a fluent speaker.
What methods should I use, what is the dos and donts, what can't I eat.
My college admission may depend on this. Please help me

If allowed, use some type of visual aid... It will help you to direct your thoughts and keep you on track and will detract some of the attention off you so the audience doesnt stare at you the whole time.

just practise ur poverty speech. Use the most perfect words and phrases and make it interesting.. then just repeat saying it, and also make it interactive,, tht is ask ppls questions.. like and example: Hi, This is sean here, today to say something on poverty.Well, you must've heard a lot of all this, but why? and why? exactly have I chosen this topic "out of the blues" ?.. Hm.. well, bcuz my teachers dint allow me to choose another! .. be a bit joking type. then go on to the serious stuf.. dont go to many facts n figures, ppl hate tht stuff.. IM me at sean_arnold_pinto on yahoo, i'LL help ya more...

Theatre folk do "focusing" exercises before going out on stage. Playing games or singing songs as a group takes people's minds off of their nerves while getting them used to "performing." I used to go off to a bathroom by myself and recite poetry over and over to calm myself and take my mind off what I was about to do.
Also, focus on your breathing and posture. Stand up as straight as you can and hold your head up. Practice breathing from your diaphragm (google "diaphragmatic breathing" for tips). This gives your voice proper breath support and makes it louder.
Avoid dairy, it makes your voice phlegmy. Also avoid caffiene as you'll be nevervous enough already.
Speak with a smile on your face and you'll sound more confident. Look at the audience. Imagine you're having a conversation with a friend on the other side of the hall. It's easier to project your voice naturally that way.

TAKE A VALIUM or TRY SCREAM THERAPY or even better have someone else give the speech and record it on a video tape and LIP SYNCH it.....NO, seriously, though......BE YOURSELF and raise the volume of your voice......as for the food situation, don't drink too much before you have to give a speech and DO NOT CHEW GUM......GOOD LUCK and may the force be with you!!!!

Practice, practice, practice.
Lie in bed. Concentrate on breathing. REALLY concentrate...letting your diaphram expand with each breathe. Trust me, it will relax you. Then as you become relaxed, read your speech out loud, then while a bit less focused on breathing, read it out loud again.
Get the voice louder...being relaxed will assist. Then sit up, focus on breathing, read the speech.
Finally, stand in front of a mirror...relax, breathe...concentrate...and practice practice practice.
Don't drink soda...makes you gassy, don't drink milk or eat milk products as they coat the mouth ad throat. Drink water, but nothing ICY...might make your tongue too cold to function correctly.
Overall, just practice, know ad believe your material ad IN yourself. You're trying to get into college...You're going to do FANTASTIC!

Think about something that makes you really angry and pissed off. When you are angry, you don't care what anyone else thinks and you forget all about being nervous. Then, when you give you speech, you sound more confident and assertive at what you are talking about.

Practice practice practice. You will do better if you really know your material. Also practice your breathing. When people are nervous they tend to take quick shallow breaths that do not help your voice. You need to practice deep breathing - and remember to pause and take some breaths during your presentation.

With that short of time, go to a hypnotist. They can give you a post hypnotic suggestion, a trigger word that will give you the self confidence you need.
With more time I would say practice, know your subject, talk to the back row of people. Good luck, you can do it!

donts- no sugar ex:pop, candy ect... (it'll mess up ur voice), dont look directly at the crowd (or that will make u more nervous), dont read directly off the page (look up every few words or it'll look tacky)
dos- smile, take a deep breath, and pray to God you do well
