To capture the passengers' terror, Greengrass filmed the hijacking sequence in uninterrupted takes, some as long as 40 minutes. During rehearsals, he kept the hijackers separate from the rest of the cast. Their first encounter on set was shocking. ''We kind of had this Oh!'' says Lewis Alsamari (who plays one of the terrorists), sucking in his breath and jerking backward. ''I will never forget the first two takes. Everyone came off crying their eyes out and holding each other, hijacker and passenger."
