This is because, even if you resist it, your lungs, due to the difference in pressure, would be forced to take the helium gas in. What the blood does is carry the gas molecules deposited in the lungs. so guess what happens....

My friend had surgery about 2 years ago with a then new procedure. They inflated his entire torso with a small amount of inert gas pressure.

But you can't do this with a hose in the mouth. The mouth, stomach and intestines are all separate from the inner body cavity. So you have to make a small incision somewhere, insert the hose there, and seal it somehow.
