Have a house built in 1982 with mfg wood siding. It is manufactured with a color which is now fading. Can this type of siding be painted?

It can be painted until it has suffered water damage... then you might as well cover it with vinyl siding.

Once masonite has had water damage, it will continue to be a problem.. .swelling, blistering, etc... Painting over the damage is only a temporary solution... in two years, you would have to scrape and repaint it, because the masonite would continue to flake out.

It probably has a 'chalky' look to it right now... you need to give it a good cleaning, before painting.... I'd advise AGAINST a power washer since this is masonite siding.... you're likely to get water up behind it. Instead, use a good ole bucket and scrub brush... yeah, it takes a bit of work, but as some of the others have pointed out.... prep work, is the important part of painting....and often what takes the longest.

Scrape off any existing loose paint, and prime it.. and you can make it any color you want.

Lotta elbow grease.... lol...

Have Fun!

I would imagine it could be but I would ask at a paint store (not Home Depot or Lowes, etc) but someone who actually knows what they are talking about. I would also imagine that the siding would have to be powerwashed and primed before painting but a paint store (DuLux or Sherwin Williams) would know for sure.

As far as I know, it can.

Remember, well over half of any paint job is the preparation. Clean it thoroughly and talk to a paint pro about suitable primer and paint.

Yes. My husband is a professional painter. He has done it before and recommends acrylic exterior paint. Good luck
