The trick is, the person rolls up a piece of rather large paper into the shape of a cone. The person places a handkerchief, or an item like it, into the paper cone. The person opens the paper and there is nothing left inside.

The key is sleight of hand and misdirection. One way of doing this is for the magician to only pretend he's stuffing the handkerchief in there, when all the while he's actually stuffing it up his sleeve somehow. Of course, in this version of the trick he can't show the handkerchief in the cone.

Another way one could make it happen is to rig up a string mechanism attached to the handkerchief--assuming the handkerchief isn't going to do much traveling and stays with the magician. The string would run up the sleeve of the arm of the hand that's holding the cone. With the right movements the string will pull the handkerchief out of the cone through a small opening at the tip of the cone and into the magician's sleeve.

The confetti would come out of the sleeve of the hand that's stuffing the handkerchief into the cone.

Slip a fake thumb into the cone. Push the handkerchief into the fake thumb with your real thumb. Wear the fake over the real and dispose of it into a pocket while the audience's attention is focused on the cone.
