Assuming NATO allies would not go to war against each other, I'd say the chance is near zero. I believe the regional conflicts like we've seen in Iraq I, Kosovo, Somalia, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Iraq II, Darfur, Sri Lanka and Lebanon are much more likely going forward.

That being said, if North Korea and/or Iran were to make nuclear trouble, I do believe we'd see a concerted NATO effort to take them out.

The only real wild card would be a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. I'm not sure how the Japanese or Americans would react to that, and it is unclear who in NATO besides Britain would have the stomach for a war with China. Of course, you have to assume France would immediately surrender if China did indeed invade Taiwan.

Let's clarify - a World War means that there is conflict involving countries on several continents all fighting at the same time in declared wars against other groups of countries.

What we have is what we have had for over a thousand years a string of small wars between two countries. There has not been a single year in human history where there hasn't been SOMEONE fighting a war.

A world war means that there isn't a single place on Earth that isn't actively involved or at risk. Please learn some history and put it in perspective. The people who are saying "yes, we're in one now!" have no idea what a world war really is.

We are already in a state of war. May not be the typical campaign type of war. It will be the type of war whereby the enemy is incognito, living among us, sharing our parks and beaches and enjoying the protection of our Constitution. I've learned to be wary of my surroundings at all times.
