I'm moving from an apartment ( a big one with a bunch of junk) to a (itty bitty ) dorm

I have a TON of crap.

I was going to donate big stuff like my T.V but all my other junk Like jeans, books and Hangbags I was going to toss...

I don't have time for a yard sale and I'd need to rent a truck to drop off my stuff to a thrift store..

Isn't better to just junk it and be done with it?

(I only have 1 week to move.)

I've been in the same situation.

This is what I did:
Sorted through my things and seperated them in to piles:

1. stuff I want - ( which I kept of course!)
2. junk ( stuff that is in bad shape, or broken - I tossed this stuff)
3. stuff friends and family might want ( you know those $200.00 Earl jeans you HAD TO HAVE 3 summers ago- give 'em to your little sis.. she'll love em!)
4. Stuff that I could donate ( old T.V , Cd's and clothes) Call Good will and have them pick these up - too much of a hassle?
put them neatly in a box by you dumpster, with a note that says - Free ( whatever it is..)

really, it's not THAT much work and I promise you- you'll be glad you did.

Good luck @ Your new dorm!
Don't forget flip flops for the shower.
Trust me, warts are Not sexy!

If it's stuff that does have actual value, Salvation Army or some other charitable thrift store will come and get it. Or call the Boy Scouts or some such group, maybe a troop leader would want to make a project out of sorting and hauling?

At the same time, there is NOTHING charitable about donating trash. If it really is garbage, then rent a Dumpster and get rid of it.

I think you could let someone know that you're moving and have some things you no longer need and ask them if they're interested to come by and pick it up. This way you won't have to worry about having to rent a truck or feeling guilty about throwing out something someone else might be able to use; plus one man's junk might be another man's treasure.

Might Goodwlll or Salvation Army have donation boxes in your area? Just put the items in plastic bags and place them into the donation boxes. Doesn't it seem better to have someone else have a chance to re-use your items than having them put into a landfill somewhere to pollute the earth and air?

"each and every time I have some thing laying round she throws it away" - shop your room neat and tidy and also you received't have this problem. She likely thinks that the mess laying round on the floor is trash and should be disposed of. once you've too a lot "stuff" to shop on your room (overflow is going into the storage), take the time to pass with the aid of each and every thing and throw out or recycle stuff that you no longer use and/or favor.

If you call a place like Goodwill or Salvation Army, sometimes they will come and pick up your stuff for you. Just tell them you have a lot of stuff you would like to donate but you have no way to get it there.

I wouldn't through anything away. Call the GoodWill, Salvation Army, or thrift stores in your area. They will pick it up from you. Maake sure they take it all, or none. Someone can use it, and you will get tax deduction receipt also. Good Luck

set it out side with a sign that says FREE on it. That way you won't feel guilty about throwing it away and you won't have to carry it to a donation center. When I had a bunch of clothes and linens I did not want I took it down to the mission where they feed the homeless. and set it out. the homeless even helped me set it out and I don't think I have never been blessed so many times in my life.

If you have THAT much of "junk," many charity place will come pick the stuff up for free. I'd imagine if you give 3 places calls, someone will be willing to pick them up at your convenience.

I'd say junk it. Theres so many trash pickers out there that you wouldnt need to worry about it ending up in a landfill.
