People's violent nature causes them to desire playing violent video games. This nature is what causes the violent behavior.
But, playing violent video games can teach you how to become more skillfully violent, and help you form more clear violent thoughts.

In my opinion violent games can lead to violent behavior. As a teenager, adolescents learn most of their values during this time. If they are not brought up in a stable environment and play these games, then they are in a high risk of displaying violent behavior. As a 38 year old African-American I can tell you that I am deeply troubled by the violent behavior displayed by the younger generation. This is caused by not having good enough role models when a person is younger and even if a person has good role models if they are not around enough to influence a person then they are just as bad as the bad role models. However there are many who play these games and grow up to be upstanding members in their community. The goal is to remember that these games are fantasy and that if you do it in real life and die you do not get to push a button and play again. Video games are too realistic in today's society and the violence is always associated with something that you would not do in real life. Keep your head up and if you play these games then remember they are fantasy. People may wonder why I am concerned with the younger generation then I can tell them. I have worked enough to get social security and I want it because the Lord knows I am going to need it. So I need the younger generation to get off their asses and work so I can get my social security. LOL. Peace

Violent behaviour did not begin with video games. People have been hurting each other for many centuries. Violent video games have been created with the understanding that humans have an appetite for violence and conflict. Do soap operas make stay at home housewives break up with their husbands to fulfil fantasies with hot plumbers?
Statistics and studies say that people who watch violence tend to be prone to violent behaviour....but there's no indication that those people who are attracted to violent video games, were not already leaning towards violent behaviour. People and circumstance make a person violent...a video game is a distraction,... a fantasy.... not a cause....in my opinion.
When I was six, I read about superman and admired his power.... but I never tried to leap a tall building based on his comical influence! Who know's though... if Superman was my only influence...my only desired reality, my only escape from bad circumstances...I would be more likely to jump off a building and think that things were going to be okay.

No for the most part but one thing does kind of lead to it. It desensitizes kids to real violence so when they're kickin each other's butts in a video game some may be led to believe that they can do that stuff in real life with no real consequences. All it takes though is raising your child with some common sense. I played "violent" video games when I was a kid and you don't see me out there picking fights with people

I don't think so. I've been playing violent video games since they first started appearing (Mortal Kombat in 1993), and I'm not a violent person.

Yes, my friend, believe it or not the truth is they do.
There´s no way you can walk through the mud and yet keep your feet clean, the same way it comes to things in life.
And we know that... Video game isn´t a bad thing at all, but if it refers to violence, than I wonder... is violence a good thing?
I understand there might be other causes for the violence in society, and I agree we need information about it but, from my standpoint, it is not good exploring it in any way, because anything in excess can cause damage; even water consumed in excess can´t have a good effect.
Peace...

No. Suppressed emotions and parental neglect causes violent behavior.

I think that combined with the demoralization the news media has indoctrinated people with leads to a lack of morality in the young mind.
I am not only saying that is the problem, A lot of it has to do with the lack of a moral upbringing in todays me me me society as well. So it is a symptom of a much larger cause.

Surveys says that there is no causal evidence to support that.
People who are prone to violent behavior gravitate to violent games, but regular folks do not have it affect them.

iam a certified videp game junkie..im proud of it too! but i do see a small direct correlation between violent games and the way youths play parts of these games on the streets..especially with the grand theft auto trilogy..i, myself play hours of RE4 and socom 3..as well as hitman games..and find myself sane and in control..maybe its because iam in my 40's..age has some signifigance in this pattern of behavior..
