People believe they should be able to have their cake, and eat it too.

Cheating is a coward's way of life, it's rather ironic, but when busted all of a sudden they develop a sense of loyalty to this person. Truth be told, they are just trying to save their own behinds. Better to be busted by one and lose one, then to be busted by both and end up alone.

Because the person they are cheating on is doing a good job of being a housekeeper/housecleaner and a good mother to their kids. The cheater wants all of it.....wife and lover. Wife is the above mentioned and lover is his sex machine.

My soon to be Ex-husband keeps telling me that no matter what he will be there for me. Especially for booty calls. He told me he made the biggest mistake of his life throwing our marriage away.
He tells me this while still chasing after the whore he cheated with. He wants the security of having booty calls with me on the side, if it doesn't work out with whoever he is messing with .

They cheat because the can.
They feel they can get away with having their cake and eating it too.
Once caught, they feel they can't get away with it anymore and decide they don't want to eat the cake afterall.
