Because we started it and we can call it whatever the hell we want! We could have called it the intergalactic series and it would still be a bunch of steroid enhanced millionaires hitting a little ball with a friggin stick.

It may be with all American teams, but the players on the team are from around the world

Origionally, America was the only nation that played baseball in the world, so when they had the final playoff, it just fit to call it the world series.

The reason, I believe, is that Major League Baseball represents the baseball world. Any player around the world, be it in the minors here in America and Canada, or in professional leagues such as those in Holland, Japan, and yes, even Cuba (who can't play for us unless they defect), plays to be in the Major Leagues. If you ask me, though, I think Japan could compete with us and I'd like to see a real "World Series" in which our champion plays their champion.

When the first world series was played in 1903, the US was probably the only country playing baseball.
