The Monkees did a song called "She" on their second album, "More of the Monkees", which came out in late '66/early '67.
The lyrics start out with, "SHE.....she told me that she loved me.... then turned around and fed me dirt.... SHE..... she laughed when I was crying, it was such a joke to see the way it hurt......"
Somehow, I can't imagine Elvis Costello doing a cover of this song, but hey - ya never know!

According to this great website I discovered today it was done originally by Charles Aznavour (1974). The site is called Second Hand Songs and it has all covers listed...very cool.
