I, being from Canada, think that your Government is a bit too involved in world affairs, especially the affairs that are related to oil. Your Government is spending trillions upon trillions on "Iraqi Freedom" , when the agenda is really all about O-I-L. Trying to change a Muslim Nation into living like we do is never going to work. Imagine some powerful nation going into the US and telling all the women to wear Burkas........how do you think it would fly? You cannot change the way people have lived for thousands of years.....it's the way they are!!!!!
So, in closing, I think that NO, the USA is NOT the best nation on earth! I won't even be arrogant enough to say that Canada is, because I don't know that, but I am happy of where I live and how my Government reacts to world issues!
To the person who referred to America as having the most freedom in the world, I beg to differ......Canadians are free and happy as well - we have health care - guaranteed, and education - guaranteed.

Your asking a very subjective question and getting many subjective answers. Most of the posts are based on the ideal that we are a free country. This is also subjective, because then we could spend a long time trying to define free. It will mean many thing to many people. I would venture to say that we are 1) not nearly as free as we are told and 2) that in order for you to answer your own question objectively you will have to do some traveling. Having served many yrs. in the military and then working internationaly I would have to say that we are not the best country for a host of reasons. When my Wife finishes her 2nd tour in Iraq we are relocating to Belgium, all in all a much more stable and progressive country than this one. Also if the argument is based on "free" you should consider Iceland, Canada, Greenland, most of the E.U., New Zealand etc.

If you are refering to its strength and civil development, then yes. America is the best nation on Earth. It is a military superpower and is extraordinarily developed. It is a powerful example of democracy and the only symbol of freedom in the world.

If you are refering to best nation as a place to live, ... Well that depends on how tolerant your sanity is. And where your values and morals lie.

Yes, we have more individual freedoms than any other nation on earth. We have the right to worship who we desire. Most of us in the red states have the freedom to defend our homes and familys.

The majority of us have plentiful food, clean water and clothing and houseing, and medical care. We don't wash our clothes on a riverbank, we don't ride camels to work, we have toilet tissue to wipe our butts and neither the terrorists or the left wing liberals
are strong enough to tear us down!

it used to be ,it is now becoming a fascist police state and will be the most feared and dangerous nation on Earth, because they want to rule the world by force as well as reduce the world population by 60%.(this is well documented,,it was said by Kissinger ,Bush and Prince Philip in closed Bilderberg meetings,)
and soon only white ,Christians will be the privileged population.

Of course it is but we're not perfect either. We need to fight to make it better and one thing we can do is to vote out incumbents in Congress (both parties) because they are no longer representing the PEOPLE on many matters before them.

Personally, as an American, it must be. Everybody still wants to live that "American Dream". Even people who would float on tires and hide themselves in the wheels of an airplane, jeopardizing their lives, to come over here.

Yup, but it has had better days. 100-years ago, capitalism was at its peak. We had fantastic discoveries & production: Edison, Ford, Westinghouse... It was a time that worshipped productive brains.

Unfortunately, we now crush them & chear: Bill Gates, Martha Stewart...
