Some people have what is called "heroin metabolism" or a lack difference in levels of endorphin brain chemicals. That is why when some people try heroin, they spend the night puking and never want to see the stuff again, while others try it and feel 'normal' for the first time in their life.
Unfortunately, addiction takes over very rapidly, and rather rich or poor, the heroin addict spends the rest of their days finding ways to stay 'well'.
Methadone or Orlamm, or even bupermorphine are temporary solutions, but really it is a case of switching addictions. Eventually you have to quit these things as well, or stay on them the rest of your life.
I know it is hard, but the best thing you can do is find a good doctor, go in or out patient, and take the plunge of kicking.
There are some very compassionate people out there willing to help you. Then once you have made it through the physical withdrawl, you should make sure you have a loving support group around you to help you in time of weakness.
Then, life will begin to unfold for you again. I promise! Life is a gift, and it is fleeting...make the most of it. If you are happy being a heroin addict...great. It sounds like you ain't, though, so start taking the steps to recovery.
I know you can do it.

I hate reading answers about us drug users that are written by straight-edged, never-leave-their-big-house-in-the-suburbs types. And to you, sir, who asked a barely legible but inquisitive and worthwhile question. Why you? It's because our brains are wired slightly incorrectly. Our dopamine reward system is, if not broken, easily tricked. We love instant gratification and get it more readily through drug use than any other route, so we become addicts. It's that simple, really. Add in lost love, **** parents, a mind that won't shut up and a few other gut-wrenching emotional setbacks and you've got the perfect groundwork laid for an addiction that takes away all that and replaces them with a simple system. Get high, feel better, repeat. It works against you after awhile though, and adds to the despair.
I'm a heavy H user too. Just goes to show were not all half retarded losers. I'm more articulate than 80% of the internet and I shot up an hour ago. Intelligence can be a curse, however.

Heroin is a deadly drug. It's highly addictive, and you get terrible withdrawl symptoms when you stop taking it. Alchohol on the other hand can be deadly, but If you drink Alcohol, you can stop, unless you get in the habit of drinking too much. When you decide to quit after being an Alcoholic it's tough, but not nearly as tough as quitting Heroin. Taking Heroin just once can get you hooked, and when you get hooked it's most likely that you will face some serious hardships in your life, and it will likely kill you.
Talking about making it legal is another issue, but comparing Heroin to Alchohol is really not a good comparison.
Drugs and Alcohol make people feel good, and I think it fills a void in thier life where God should be. Ask God to show you the truth about Heroin, and ask God bless you and show him your love. Don't ask this testing God, but ask this with an open heart, and an inkling of faith, desiring to have God fill that void. Jesus gave his life for you so that you could be free from the addiction from drugs, and be whole. Ask Jesus to help you.

My sister which I have seen today for the first time in 3 years is recovering from Heroin addiction. She's on some heavy duty meds and they are helping her immensely. Facing the fact that you are addicted is a great start and getting help and sticking to it no matter how rough it gets is a milestone. There is alot of help out there and it costs nothing. Good luck!!

Because unlike Alchol the body gets acclmated to Heroine and other tropic drugs that stimulate the brain. Eventually the dosage gets so high that body functions start shutting down and in short you OD.
Also I think the drug cartels help keep it illegal. Yes. I mean if it were legal a gram would be like $1 or $5 and there is little profit in that if your a drug cartel person.

Dude you’re brain has a dopamine issue/a chemical dysfunction there are treatments that will help you! That is why you are hooked and I am not…that is why dealers sell and you’re their monkey. You’re feeling sorry for yourself and you want to die! A lazy coward… that is the easy way out… the heroin addiction is, if not the hardest addiction to kick… You have to be ready and wanting to quit. It’s a lot of effort and can be done. None of us can help you or answer your questions really you have to answer it yourself.
Once you decided that you honestly really-
“don’t need the same old **** “…they have the drugs to help get your body clean so quit asking us the same old****…. Sh:t or get or off the brick.

well maybe not just off the shelf. maybe through a clinic or something. I think the reason that they do not do this is that the profits are high enough to buy enough politicians to keep it illegal and use tax money to keep supply restricted and prices up.
I could care less about how a junky runs his life, but the crime that goes with the black market is very bad for any society.

There are 2 things I've seen happen to junkies throughout my life and I've known many...
A) They die of an overdose
B) They get clean
I have a good friend who was addicted for 7 years , bad, she lived on the street in seattle and everything...but then she got on orlam (like methadone but more addictive and more effective) she was on that for 3 years then she moved to chicago where they switched her to methadone and she eventually weened herself off of it . Now she wakes up in the morning feeling great.!!
she goes to bed at night not woriing about how shes gonna get well in the morning...she gets through a weeks with out ever even thinking about it. she is better for having been down that path, but damn glad she's not on it anymore.
she says she used to wish it was legal too like in the U.K..
(There they have clinics like methadone clinics that distribute heroin )
But if you are always getting high on it you'll never be able to change your lifestyle to get off of it. And if you can get off it you will feel like a WHOLE person. Like a normal person which is way better than waking up sick every morning
Heroin addicts are usually highly intelligent and creative
to answer the question why are you like that ...I can say that there is definitely a part of the brain that is missing or different in heroin addicts compared to everyone else. But I can say with absolute certainty my friend would never want to go back to that lifestyle.
She will never have to do anything in her life that was as hard as quitting, but she has NEVER been as happy as she is now

Heroin is horrible stuff. I've watched two people flush their lives down the toilet with it and also have seen several others "high" on it. There is nothing good about heroin.
I'll concede that it wouldn't have to be that way if people were smart about it. But for the most part, they aren't.
