They work at the group home for adults with disabilities that I manage and have been AMAZING in picking up shifts when so short staffed so I, being salaried and not getting paid for it, wouldn't have to in this 24 hour staffed house. I'm super grateful and want to do something but am strapped for cash being a student that works in a caregiving field. Any ideas?

Write each of them a little note and put in a beautiful thankyou
card mentioning their kindnesses and extra duties that they have
done and how you appreciate this and that they have been a benefit to your patients, clients. Also tell them , that copies of these notes will go into their records for future times when their
work is evaluated and that it won't go unnoticed.
Hopefully in the future they will get a nicer raise or day off with pay
if you get extra help in. Not now but later down the road.

the best way for an employer to show appreciation to an employee is money....

however perhaps if that is not possible then a simply gift that is personal to the individual receiving it and a card would suffice..

think about each person and what their interests are...
perhaps they like to read and you could buy or make them a special bookmark or a book...
if they are fond of dolphins you ould buy a small dolphin themed item..
think about each indivdiual...
do they like flowers?
Perhaps one fo them has a penchant for chocolate
maybe they may like herbal remedies and oils etc...

make the gift fit the person...

and no matter what gift and card you give them also give them a written reference that they can add to their resume which is powerfully positive and expresses your appreciation of them and their skills.

Maybe take in some baked goods, snacks, and such. Lots of times you can do something homemade that isn't too expensive. Also, just write thank you notes to them telling them how much you appreciate them. Lots of times someone's praise is priceless.

Dinner or lunch at a restaurant is good. The human element is always a good thing to go with; pleasent conversation, nice surroundings.

If you're strapped for money, just give them a simple card. It's not the amount of money you spend that matters, it's the mere fact that you're telling them you appreciate them.
