If you are referring only to sand on Earth, it is finite. The Earth is of finite size and sand is made of molecules of finite size...hence there cannot exist an infinite number of molecules of sand within the finite confines of Earth.

It depends on what models of the cosmos you believe to be true. For the classic, our universe is the only one, view: there is a finite ammount of matter so that means there is a finite amount of sand, or sand that can ever exist. However, new theories in cosmology suggest there are an infinite amount of universes out there, in which case, sand is infinite.

As far as at this instant (everything on Earth now at this moment) then it is finite. However 5 minutes from now, space debris that has entered our atmosphere will be added to the particulate makeup of the earth, hence it has increased and will continue to increase the particles of sand on the Earth, thus infinite. So the question is at a static point or ongoing?

I think it is finite. Although more sand is produced over time, there is still a finite amount that can be produced. There is only so much material that can be produced into sand.

As long as there are shells and rocks in the ocean there will be sand. I remember hearing that all the sand on the beaches in Hawaii had to be shipped in from other places because Hawaii is surrounded by coral which does not turn to sand when beaten infinitely by the waves and tides.

Hmm, I would sand sand is a bit INfinite because it's constantly BEING produced. Through erosion, wind, ect..it's creating sand particles. You may not be able to SEE them all, but they're being produced..or so I would think.

finite because there is not an infinite amount now, but infinite because more is constantly being made. i would say finite.
