i know abbreviations are easy to use but a lot of them arent used so that other people can understand them

UGH!!! No, it's NOT just you! I'm a professional writer & editor and I get driven crazy by the dismal state of people's typing/writing skills. And it's not just on this site, either. It seems to be EVERYWHERE I look on the Internet. Abbreviations are the least of my concerns.
What I want to know is what kind of high schools do we have here in the U.S.? Or maybe I should ask what kind of parents do we have who are raising today's teens? It seems that young people today either don't KNOW how to use spelling and grammar, or don't CARE a flying fig about the importance of it. :(
Gosh, I sound like some old geezer. I'm only 34 -- LOL! But it just makes me nuts to see how so many young people don't seem to have even an elementary school level of spelling and grammar skills. What's up with that?? *sigh* I don't have kids, and probably won't, but if I do, you can be sure they won't sound like brainless, thoughtless rubes!

It is a little annoying at times, but this whole thing is just for fun. What annoys me more is when people point out someone else's spelling and grammar mistakes, and make a mistake themselves while doing it. That happened in this question....just proves we are all human!
(I will admit to any mistakes that I have made in this answer, as I am human and make mistakes.)

it's the beginning of the downfall of america...illiteracy. Blame it on ebonics and all that slang crap that the hip hop and rappers use. no one knows how to spell or speak any more.. what a shame and these people are our future. thank god I won't be around by the time the next generation grows up and it gets worse.

people type illegibly mostly because they're in a hurry. They don't know when you're going to decide which answer is the best one and they really need the points.

i have noticed that a lot for some time now..but you cant force anyone to get them to type very clearly..thats the way they do it-on their own accord. also, i use a lot of chat acronyms here..just go with the flow bro.

no i agree with you ... some do not talk or type the way you should...some should use the check spelling too...i know some uses slang that i do not understand either...but anyway i do definitely know what you mean..

those of us with half a brain and more than minimal education have picked up on it. you're not the first person to bring attention to it, but people will certainly keep agreeing with you.
