Odds are he'll be even MORE agitated at the vet - he's a stranger.
My suggestion is to bribe the little fella with some treats. My pigs always liked the yogurt drops, and fresh veggie are always a hit. Give him a treat before you begin, then after each paw is done. Pet and soothe him while he's munching.
Be patient- it will take him a couple of rounds to get used to the clipping routine.

Actually, taking him to the vet would be the better way to go. They can sedate your piggie and get it done for you. It is worth the money. My guinea pig acted the same way each time I attempted to clip her nails. Finally, I took her to the vet and she was in and out in no time.

well, the vet would probably be able to sedate him if hes really that bad. depending on whether he bites or not, why dont you try using a gloved hand to hold him still while you do it? it would be even better if you had someone else to help. that way they could keep him still while you can concentrate on clipping.. it would not be good if you cut them too short...

Taking him to the vet is a good idea because they'll get it done no matter what, even if they have to give him a little "cocktail" first to calm him down.

Very carefully !!You do know you may have to get their teeth trimmed down too if it doesnt have any thing to chew on every day. their teeth grow too. Otherwise the vet can trim both.

If this guinea pig did that to my mother-in-law, it would die instantly. In Peru, they eat them. My wife misses eating them. I keep telling her that here they are pets. By the way, they are mostly dark meat and have a lot of fat. I ate one and did not know it.
