I need to give a boy advice on how to become more popular with his school-mates.
If you're still at school, what things in particular do the unpopular kids do that annoy you and make them unpopular?

unpopular kids tend to be one off's, no offense to your

friend but if he tries to be what he's not , he's only kidding

himself, tell him to be himself whatever that may be, as

just because someone is popular doesn't mean they are better!

Not that there's anything wrong with them but the quiets ones tend to be the most unpopular. People like who talk, although people get annoyed by people who talk too much, people who don't talk are ignored. After years of being ignored people assume there is something wrong with them or they are "weird". I think the reason people like other people who talk so much is because people sincerely want to get to know other people and the easiest people to get to know are the ones that are constantly blabbing therefore they tend to have more friends.

For some people it's harder to strike up a conversation then others because they are shy, meaning they are self- conscience. Shy people can't have good conversations because they constantly worry about being foolish and are paralyzed because they are always thinking "Should I say this" "If I do this what will he think" "why is he talking to me". This compounded by the belief amoung schoolmates that their is an absolute right way and wrong way to be as we all know but I have come to learn people never really mean what they say at that age and are more or less parrotting something they heard. If your buddy is one of these people and young he might not even be conscience he's doing it.

Confidence is not something that can be taught only gain through experience when a person figures out all people judge themselves more then they do anyone else. Just tell your buddy to open up to people more, be transparent, constantly tell people that he's thinking and share his opinions and sooner or later he'll find some people will be drawn towards towards him. All popularity after that costs money.

Note: It's harder for smart people to make friends then normal people because smart people have so many layers it's hard to find another smart person with a similar sensibility.

I'm not still in school, thank all the gods, but I remember it all too well.

Showing sensitivity to teasing only makes things worse. It's a necessary first lesson in hypocrisy - find some way to laugh the teasing off, however unfunny he finds it. He should avoid sucking up to the teacher or tattling. He might want to enroll in a martial arts class, which will help him feel more physically competent and confident.

I read somewhere about a group for children who feel socially awkward. It's moderated by a therapist, though it isn't group therapy - more like guided coaching in positive interactions with peers. I can't remember the name and location of this program, but these sites might be helpful. Maybe someone involved with either program could connect you with a group in your area.

the thing that makes a person unpopular is the way they dress, act, or how much they study or read. the thing that gets to me is the fact that they want to be popular and talk like a popular person.

There are three ways to become really popular. One is, that he can join a sports team and become really good at sports and be a dckhead jock. Another way, is to have really good looks, or he could start having a really good personality and talking to everyone and make everyone like to be around him. I would go for the last one.

answer every question the teacher asks. no one likes a know-it-all. bad bad. oh and i hate it when someone makes annoying sounds while the class is taking a test. so annoying. people must be curtious of others. there are two kinds of popular: sweet girl/nice boy or slut girl/bad boy. i get annoyed by the popular people who use others and make fun of people they don't know just to make themselves look good. so again, be kind and respect everyone. that's pretty much it.

Kind of clothes he uses....but most of it is the kind of attitude that he has or he needs to work on..
to be a more popular person implies being more sociable, more open to the people, raise his voice, make himself heared
