Doubtful, unless the strategic superpowers are involved directly against each other (and not through surrogates) the confict in the middle east is just a side show between rump states.
There are currently 40 different conflicts and wars in the world at any given moment. The threshold to a world war would entail two camps and involvement by the superpowers, until then its not a bonafide World War...sorry.

I think we are in the middle of a long "World War" between radical Islam and the Western way of life. All over the world from the UK to Middle East to Asia, radical Muslims are fighting "westernized" peoples. Radical Islam doesn't have a nation per say so war will never be officially declared. Like it or not we are in the middle of WW3.

I honestly believe we are in WWIII - RIGHT NOW. Europe doesn't know it yet, despite all of the clues - (head in the sand syndrome - remember WWII?) We are fighting a fascist, radical, well organized group of neanderthal Islamic terrorists who are hell bent on an Islamic controlled one-world government at any cost and by any means. This is a war we must win.

I never thought that would happen in my lifetime. But it sure looks like it. However, we can rest assured that Israel and all that back Israel will win, and the era of peace promised by many prophets of different religions and persuasioins will come. I well remember the popular song in the hippie days, "This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius..." Terrorism will be eliminated.
