I have recently acquired a 6' red tail who has lived in a extremely small house all his life. Deuce is not very big for his age (7) and I believe this is from his small quarters. I want to build a large house for him but do not want to use glass or plastic. Do they make a fabric cage for large snakes?

Fabric would not be good. It wouldn't hold temps or humidity levels nor would it hold the snake.
Have you thought about a wooden cage? You can buy them online or even build your own rather inexpensively. We have built several of our 4 and 6 foot long cages ourselves and it was easy.
We have a light fixture mounted inside the cage for heat and lighting that is covered with a mesh cover so the snake can't come into contact with the light, We have plexiglass front windows and small mesh vents on the back for air flow. The bottoms are covered with linoleum or tiles for easy clean up. You can use plywood, particle board or even melamine(best looking)
Your snake is probably small from being underfed and not from a small cage. They will grow no matter what.

Good Luck!

Mesh would definately be torn up. Snakes are escape artists.

You could invest in a suitable enclosure, but building would most likely be the best. If you are not handy in building, I am sure you can find a handyman locally that will help you out for a fair price.

Red Tails love to be up high, so an enclosure with sufficient floor and height space is ideal.

And their size is factored by how aggressive they have been fed. If you feed them thoroughly, they will grow to their max, and vice versa.

Glass or plastic is the ideal method for housing along with wood. You can use quite a bit different types of wood and paint them to look appealing. Melamine is fairly easy to clean up compared to the other wood types.

Good luck on your excellent snake.

No, fabric will easily be torn through by a large python. A cheap alternative is wooden framed cages with plexi-glass sides. There are multiple places online that have designs for these. It is possible to fabricate one out of plastic, but this is expensive. Outside of that, it's pretty much store-bought glass and metal aquariums. The snake is probably small from being underfed though. Reptiles aren't like fish, they grow no matter what size their cage is.
