I didn't, but I had an ancestor that was named a Revolutionary war "Patriot" because he told his horse about an attack that was planned on the local miltia during the Revolutionary war. He was found out and his family's life was threatened if he told anyone about the plot.

So he told his horse - it just happened that the company commander was on the other side of the horse!

The attack was thwarted, and he and his family were safe.

I talk to them all the time. They are great listeners. They help to relieve the stress after a hard day at work. It's great when you start talking and they turn their head towards you with those big brown eyes and the ears perk up and turn to you. They don't judge you or turn on you. No agenda and they won't try to stab you in the back.

It is possible to have a two-sided conversation with them. You just have to know how to listen. It takes time and patience, but it can be done. The barn is the first place I go when I get home from work. They're a lot better than a therapist, and a lot more fun...

I talk to the horse I am riding when I am really nervous like at a show or when I am trying something new, it doesn't matter what I say, but somehow it calms me down, it makes me feel like we are in this together!
I also make deals with the horse i ride, like if he is good I will stop working him so hard and then we will both be happy!

When I still had my horse soul mate, I talked to him all the time. I would tell him all the things that were wrong and when I was crying, I would wrap my arms around his neck and he would duck his head to give me a hug. I would tell him something and he would listen. He seemed to possess this understanding. When we would be out running the fields and jumping over everything, being reckless, we were like two birds who had been let free from their cages. You would never see two beings more in sync, more free and careless in the world. Sadly, my equine partner caught West Nile in 2004 and had to be euthanized. I still cry sometimes when I think about him. I miss my best friend a lot.

Yes, it was my sister-in-laws horse. I had been caring for her horse while she was out of town. She had returned came over to ride, was going to practice barrel pick-up, which I did not know. I was rubbing the horse face and said your mommy has been gone not paying you any attention, I want you to throw her. We both laughed at that. She took off down in the pasture and I saw something yellow fly off followed by her, She had my son own with her and the horse threw them off,. Since that day she will not let me talk to her horse unless I promise it is something good. Lol

we talk about things like what i am doing to him, since almost everything i do its the first time hes done it or had it done or seen it.

like there was a tractor out and he said "HOLY CRAP WHAT IS THAT??? IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL KILL MEE!!!' and i said, no it wont kill you if you respect its space. it will mett you if you want thuogh" so we walked over to it and my horse said "wow, you were right, i guess its not scary. its standing still. cool! thanks mom!!" and now every time we walk by the tractor, whether its on or off, he dosent scream, he just looks at it and nods, as if to say " hey, im glad were friends"

lol
