I live in Tennessee and have DirecTV HD Service. I have had a DirecTV Tivo for several years and recently upgraded to the HD Tivo. To my displeasure I have since found out that there is a new format for HD broadcasts that this new Tivo is not capable of receiving. Further DirecTV doesn't have a consumer DVR that will receive this new format. Finding information on a release date for the new DVR is tough. Does anyone here have any information concerning the release date for the new MPEG4 HD DVR from DirecTV?

As far as i know....the HD DVR that you are looking for is still in development.......Usually when new equipment is available we are trained in advance for it......so far.....i havent heard anything......try calling Directv a few times back to back inquiring about the DVR and someone may give you more details....also try emailing them directly.....

The new DVR is just being introduced in the Los Angeles area. I have no idea how long it will take it to be available in Tennessee. Are you depending on DirecTV for reception of your local digital stations? Can you put up an outdoor antenna? If you can, you don't really need the DirecTV DVR, you can use the TiVo HR10-250. These are still available at good prices. So far, and for the forseeable future, MPEG4 will be used only for "locals into locals" (LIL) service. This means that only your local broadcast channels will be coded in MPEG4, but the national channels like HBO, etc are still in MPEG2. Eventually, some national channels will be in MPEG4, but DIrecTV is offering a trade in for the new DVR if you need it.
