Remove the spout connector, which is near the ignition module, and put the timing light on cyl. wire no. 1 and point the timing light at the crankshaft pulley, move the disturbutor till the mark is on 10 degrees before top dead center.

1996 should have digital electronic ignition. Controlled by the computer. There is a cam sensor and a crank sensor. If one goes out, it will not fire. Timing is controlled by the computer.
