In the US you need a bachelor's (4 year college) degree, then 4 years of veterinary school. A few schools offer combined 7-year programs to *highly* qualified students.

That's to become a 'basic' veterinarian. It's perfectly legal to go right out and practice once you pass the boards and get a license, but most new graduates spend at least some time working with an older vet to get some experience. Formal internships are not all that common, but equivalent experience is usually accepted.

To become a specialist, you usually need an internship or equivalent (except for pathology). Then you need 3-5 years of residency in the specialty you want, have to publish an article and pass a special exam. Residencies are always formal programs, and some are very competitive.

I'm pretty sure it's like becoming a doctor. Check with your guidance counselor or university admissions office, whichever applies. I would think that the curiculum would be rather challenging. As a doctor you learn the human anatomy, as a vet, you must know the anatomy of a variety of different species.

College= 4 years plus med school = 4 years and I think you serve a few more eyears before getting full permission to practice your professin. I'mpretty sure that's it because that's the basics for being a doctor. so yeah, but you should research it in college and career websites =) try
