No, don't tell him. And you're not loyal to the company if you're looking elsewhere. Keep quiet until you have a firm offer that you want to accept.

This is tricky coz it could backfire on you.

First, you want to show your boss how loyal you are. If you are really looking around then you are not being loyal.

The best outcome would be for your boss to hear from someone else that you were offered another job but you turned it down - even if it offered more money.

If you are looking around, there's nothing wrong with that. And if you find a better job, better overall than your current job, then take it. Ask yourself if your loyalty will be reciprocated, or what is your loyalty worth to you?

No, only tell your boss when your have received an offer you want to accept. "Loyalty" is just a word for most companies today. Do not confirm to your boss whether you are looking or not. Keep looking until you find an opportunity you want to accept.

What are you looking for? brownie points?
Just stay mum. If you find the other job more attractive, just switch and tell your boss. But don't tell him why you are switching. You need your boss wherever you go. Don't take a parting shot.

If you are not taking the other job, what's the sense in telling him?

Want more pay? Just come out ahead and ask. All he can say is no. Now, you know what to do - at least you will be clear about what to do next.

Have a sit down with your boss. Let him/her know that you have heard through the grapevine that they were under the impression you were looking to leave. I would assure them that you enjoy working for the company you are with, and that you like your job. If he/she asks if you have been contacted by other companies, be honest. Let them know you have, but have let them know you are not interested. I think that alone will show them that you are loyal to the company you are currently with. And your boss will appreciate the courtesy of you telling them in person behind closed doors, so they can ask questions and get answers right from you. You will be surprised at what can happen afterwards - like a raise or promotion (in the future). Companies like to reward loyalty and commitment; especially from a great employee.

Only if you want to use this as leverage to get a raise. Otherwise the simple fact of you saying it wouldnt even be realevant. If you want a raise just tell them that someone offered you a good opputunity but as you are loyal you want to let them know about it and see if they will match what the other company is giving you. But if you want to just tell them becaue of showing loyalty...dont bother.. you show up everyday dont you?? Thats your loyalty.

No, I think you shouldn't tell your boss. You stated that you wanted your boss to see your loyalty to the company, well your boss sees that everyday you come to work.

Good Lord, NO!!! That's not loyalty to the company. That's setting yourself up as the next out the door if they want to replace you before you are ready to go.

I don't think you should say anything. If he/she already knows you're looking for another job, this will just tell him/her that although you didn't take THIS one, you might take the next. Just keep quiet until you get offered one that you WILL take.

He'll think you're just trying to pat yourself on the back. Not a good move. Be the best employee there is. That will be your best advertisement.
