I started smoking when I was 13, mostly because all of my friends were trying it, so I thought I'd be cool. I'm 29 now and still smoking, but not looking so cool anymore. Its actually pretty disgusting and hard to quit.

Quit almost 4 yrs ago. Smoked for about 22 yrs, sometimes 3 packs a day. Had a collapsed lung which had more to do with 6ft8 than smoking but used the 10 days in the hospital to quit. Cold turkey=no patch or gum!
Good question!

I started in college, just because. I had always been fascinated by smoking even though I hated it. Unfortunately, when I got away from home and on my own, I picked up the habit when some of my friends started. Just thought I'd give it a try, but now I'm a smoking fiend.

Started when I was about 15... because it was "cool". I smoked off and on until about six years ago when I started having kids. Now I don't smoke and hopefully never will again. I'm trying to set a good example for my kids. My parents always smoked around me and I think that because of that, I didn't see smoking as such a bad thing.

I smoked from the time I was a teenager until just a couple months ago. I guess I started smoking because my parents both smoked and most everyone around us smoked. I am happy that I quit and I feel so much better now.

Yes, I smoke. I smoked before, quit for 9 years, then started back. I am trying to quit again for health reasons, but it has been very hard. I did good for the first few days, but the last 2 has been hard. They have been very stressful and I find that I tend to smoke more when I am nervous or upset.

yes, I started around 16, and still smoke. I have quit every now and then and didn't smoke heavily until around 21. I'm 29 now.
It's not rude to ask.

Unfortunately, yes; I smoke. I started when I was 13 years old. Peer pressure. I was a little Miss. goody and wanted to fit in. Wish I could have known what I know now. I was sure stupid.

Smoking is not an intelligent thing to do. In your research look at the educational attainment of smokers:

47 percent are high school or less

11 are college grads

6 percent are graduate school graduates.
