Montpelier (Vermont) is the only U.S. state capital without a McDonald's restaurant!

The largest city in Maine without a Mcdonalds is Orono... it has a population of about 10500 people and is larger than the cities mentioned here.

Technically it is impossible, because a city is defined as a place having more than 30,000 residents I believe (might be off on that). Every place with that high of a population has a McDonalds. There are TOWNS however which do not have McDonalds.

Baghdad is a very big city
there is not a McDonald's there. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and the capitals of many more middle eastern countries, that are very large indeed, don't have McDonalds. I think I know why.

Hard question. Bangor, ME has McDonald'ses. Fairbanks, AK has them. The URLs given in a previous answer don't work. Too bad. They may have had the answer. My guess is Lawrenceville, PA. The McDonald's web site gave their rendition of "Huhh?" when I looked that up. When I selected one of their alternatives, I did not find any in Lawrenceville. So that's my candidate ... Lawrenceville, PA, on the New York border.
