Turn off the power to the receptacle, back out the screws for the cover, then the receptacle. Remove the receptacle. Re attach the wires( Black to brass screw, white to silver, green or bare to ground). Re install the receptacle by reversing the previous steps.

Looks like the other replys are correct. The only thing I can add is to make sure you have the correct outlet. In bathrooms or other wet locatiions you should use Ground fault interupption outlets. There is also another special non arching outlet to be installed in bedrooms according to National electric code.

Let me see whether I can also add a clever sentence.....oh yes:
If the outlet is on an external wall of your house, and you like energy saving stuff, then you might as well consider to add one of those anti-draft plastic boxes behind the new outlet, while you're at it....

Listen to uncle bob, He knows what he,s talking about. You may also want to wrap some electrical tape around the receptical to cover the screws.
