Here's my take on your questions having seen both movies and the bonus features:
Why did Samara kill the horses and make her mom go crazy? She made the horses go crazy because she was jealous of them because she thought that her father loved the horses more than her. Her mother was also fond of horses as well, of course. As far as her mother... I don't think Samara intended on making her mother crazy. She couldn't help herself. Samara's sick form of love and the evil things she was doing led to her mother going crazy. And her mother had tried so hard and had I think somewhere between 50 and 100 miscarriages before they adopted her. This probably made her mother feel guilty and hurt as well because all she ever wanted was a daughter, hence why she killed herself.
How is she still alive to kill people after being smothered and drowned? She isn't technically alive. She is able to communicate and have presence in the living without being alive. After all, Samara is evil in the form of flesh/child.
Who made the movie that you die after viewing? Samara did. She could burn images onto things.
Why did they make the movie? She wanted to reach out to others and find a mother. It was sort of her path between worlds.Like a portal.

First time I wacthed the movie, I found myself stunned, confused, perplexed. I'vev wacthed the japaneese version The Ring O, The Ring, The Ring 2, and related movie The Spiral. Then I wacthed it's hollywood version The Ring and The Ring 2
None of them could sastified me, I even read the comics (The Ring actually based on a novel) now trying to read the novel. But NONE of them can answer every single question of mine! All the story is contradictive one another, so I've conclude this.
THE RING SUCKS, CONFUSING, RIDICULOUS, AND NOT SCARY AT ALL !! Who made this story? It just makes the audience frustated because it doesn's make sense!

ok she she made the movie so that people could remmber her. she didnt kill the horses, they sed that she brought bad luck and tht the crops died and everything, so they never let her come out or even talked about her. so no one knew that she lived there, and so they killed her and threw her down the well. and she makes the tapes so that people can know who she was and the only way not to die is to make a copy so other people could knw about her

samara made the tape and her mom went crazy when she started seeing things in her head and her father loved the horses more than her she though ..and she kills so they can feel her pain
