A) the weight of the barrel is mass x acceleration due to gravity. W = 40 x 9.8 =392 newton.

B) Work done is Force ( weight) x distance moved in the direction of force. W x h = 392 x 5 = 1960 joule.

C) Work done by the 250 newton force is the Force x distance moved in the direction of force. 250 x 10 = 2500 joule.

Work actually needed is only 1960 joule.

Efficiency is ratio of work actually needed to the work done by us.

Efficiency = 1960/ 2500 = 0.784 = 78%.
