While other filmmakers shamelessly exploit the September 11 events - the trailer of "World Trade Center" makes me sick, I wont' even watch that -, Mr gibson is about to make an epic movie based on an untouched theme: Pre-Columbian Mexico. The Aztec & other native civilizations of this region were truly amazing. I'm thrilled that finally someone is interested in them. Initially I thought that the Mayans would be speaking English - or that maybe the whole movie was going to be about some ship or person from Europe (most likely England) ending up in the Mayan territory, but fortunately it seems that Mr Gibson made a good research, and has made Apocalypto the least "Hollywoodian" possible. By the way, I think it's stupid to boycott this film for his recent anti-semite comments...

I'm looking forward to it. though I might be overlooking something ,I don't recall a single movie involving this or you're initial expectations. which is amazing when you think of how many movies where egypt has been the central theme.
I recently saw a doc. "boffo" on hbo where someone had a great pov,"actors are pretending to be someone else, and movie watchers are pretending that they don't realize that." having the actual languages greatly enhances this for me. so many other movies ,troy etc.. ,they're speaking english and it just misses that touch.
I won't be seeing that world trade center either.if it gave 100% of its profits to a memorial or such I would, but I'm not going to be a sucker for this type of thing.eventually perhaps just no box office $ from me
couldn't care less about mel's recent history. people shouldn't judge someone's entire existence based on one thing they said in a drunken state on the side of the road at 2 in the morning.

I agree with you about the 911 stuff. I think it's too soon and I don't even know anyone who was killed there or directly affected.
I really don't care much about Mel Gibson's politics. I didn't see the Passion because I'm not a Christian. I am excited for Apocalypto but I can't say whether it's good or bad because I haven't seen it.
If that area of history interests you, read Aztec by Gary Jennings. I have a lot about the Mayan and Aztecs' calendar and astrology on my various web sites too.
