Does that mean to imply that the marriage of two individuals had continental ramifications?
The question should be: Is John Rolfe Europeanizing Pocahontas, or vice versa.
I tend to agree with the answer above, though. In answering your question, as stated, it depends which side is looking at it.

It doesn't have to be one or ther other. I HATE it when history is taught like this. The Real World is not black and white, and history, which is the record of the Real World is not either.
You are right too see both of them as correct. There IS evidence for both, and in terms of "considering"...from who's point of view is it to be considered? An American Indian wouldn consider it something different from a British parliamentarian.
There is NOTHING that says these are mutually exclusive terms...
Cheers!

One of my best girl friends is from Pocahontas Indian
tribe, the Powhatan.
Pocahontas went to England in the 1500's.
That marriage helped keep peace for awhile.

i would think it would be both also, but if forced to choose i would pick Europeanizing America. they were married and stayed in America. she helped him communicate with other native Americans and spread his values. not once have i heard that he has brought Pocahontas to Europe or that he has really adapted to the native American culture
