Bomb the country into submission ? Or let the UN take over and handle it. Or get out of Iraq all together. Tell me what you think.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell once advised the first President Bush that if he pushed into Iraq (after the Persian Gulf War) and broke it (meaning he destroyed a large part of the country by bombing it), that it would his to fix. So we bombed Iraq, deposing Saddam Hussein and tried to establish a "democracy" with too few troops. We're now reaping what we sowed. The UN has repeatedly said it doesn't want the problem; that's because it strongly protested the Bush Administration from starting the war in the first place. If you were the UN General Secretary, would you want to fix Bush' mistakes? I think not!

We can't escalate the war because that would take troops we don't have - unless we wanted to institute the draft. If you think the war is unpopular now, institute a draft and all those kids and parents will be protesting in the streets, making the Vietnam War anti-war protests look like a Sunday picnic.

Our only course is to get out of Iraq and try to let the Iraqis clean up the mess we left. I don't say this because I think we should stop wasting American lives and the Iraqis deserve the mess. But this clearly isn't working. We could be there for years more and more Americans and more Iraqis are going to be killed. if they end up partiioning the country - as some experts believe will happen - so be it. And if our oil costs go higher, so be it. We're the ones who broke it.

Actually I think we should impeach President Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney for getting us into the war by lying. The rationale for the war has changed so many times I've lost count. And Secretary of Defense Don Rumsfield ought to be fired.

wouldn't do any good to escalate at this point. Maybe we should have been a little stronger in the beginning though. Right now we just have to help them get their own control, and calm the insurgency. If the UN could handle it we wouldn't be in this situation. As for getting out thats not an option yet either. If we left now, the insurgents would take over, coup, start their own holywar and we'd have to go back in and start all over. We made a mess, now we have to clean it up.

Having read the previous answers to this question, is it any wonder why so many of the international community regard the United States as being a threat to world peace? You went to Iraq in the pretence of freeing the Iraqi people, yet despite the fact that more than 40,000 innocent Iraqi civilians are now dead, the majority of the answers have suggested there should be more killings. Shame on you!!!

Your question is right. We need more people fighting and not just from the U.S. We should have gotten more military support from other countries instead of basically funding and supplying the war ourselves. How could the Nazi's have been defeated? There were over 50 million of them. The reason is world support. There were over a million Allied troops in Berlin alone at the wars end. We need more men and we need to go country to country and root these evil people out and destroy them because until they are destroyed and the hate they teach and project is stopped, there will be no end to the war. And please don't tell me to "head over there." I did my duty in Afghanistan and I am scarred because of it. If they were to ask me despite my injury if I would go back I would say "HELL YEAH!!!"
