Columbia's landing after its first mission (I was in school, trying to watch it through a fuzzy broadcast)
Downing of KAL 007 (at home, getting ready for school)
Challenger Explosion (in my room at home when my mom called to tell be the news)

Black Monday stock market crash (on the tele at high school)
Shooting down of Iranian commercial flight by US Navy (in California on a huge driving trip)

First bomb raids on Baghdad (dorm room watching on the tele, I remember the Dean of Students walking by)
Waco fire (heard about it watching Crossfire from my apartment)

O.J. Simpson verdict announced (home watching on the tele, had to set it up since I wasn't into TV at the time)
Death of Princess Diana (on the radio waking up at home)
Impeachment of Clinton (in Chicago for board gaming)
Columbine incident (read about on Yahoo! from school computer lab)
Start of year 2000 (watching the celebrations on the tele)
Younger Bush inaugurated (in Chattanooga TN at a board game convention, made comment about the new leader of the free world, which some British players had reservations over)
9/11 attacks (at work, listening to the radio)
Columbia destruction (at home with my mother, two days before our trip to Hawai'i)
Start of Iraq War (watching it at home)

I'm sure there's others, but these are the big ones that I remember.

I am a little older, but I remember being at a bar and seeing the breaking news when Princess Diana died.

On 9/11, I was working.

What about...when Kurt Cobain killed himself? I was studying in Rome at the time.

The long lines for gas in the 70's. We were somewhere in Colorado.
When Reagan was shot..I was in High School geometry class.
The shuttle explosion...I remember just sitting and staring at the stars that night.
Oklahoma City bombing..I was at home and was just terrified, my little brother lives there and at the time was working at a hospital pharmacy, and part time with EMS..he was at the pharmacy when it happened and was not allowed to leave, we found out later.

I remember a little about Watergate in 1974, the fall of Saigon in 1975, the Space Shuttle Columbia going in to space for the first time in 1981 and the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986, just to name a few.

I just remember watching Watergate and the fall of Saigon on the TV news. I watched very enthusiastically to watch Columbia go up for the first time. I was disappointed when it did go up the day it was suppose to, but it did go up the next day. I got up early both days just before school. I was in college when the Challenger blew up. I overheard some people talking about, but I did not believe what they were saying until I saw it on TV.

While most of my generation (born 1986) won't remember the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 (I sure don't), they'll remember the 2000 presidential election, the whole Y2K scare, where they were on January 1, 2000, the Subway bombings in London, and the U.S. invasion of Iraq. I for one will remember the death of Ray Charles and how Reagan's death overshadowed it so much in the media.
