What i mean is do lyrics such as "I just want to see you pop that thing" and "put ya *** into it, i just want to see you put ya back into it" make teenagers think that sex is cool, so they and go and do it? Also, are rappers pertuating the racial prejudices when saying "bush don't like black people" and making them hate the cops for busting them selling coke? I thought coke was illegal, so it is the cop's job to snoop it out? Are rappers just not good for society in general?

I'm 15 and I hate rap. The lyrics are horrible and most of the time you can't understand them. As for the rest of the stuff I'm not getting into it. Rappers get mad when bad stuff is said about them.

The same thing is/was said about rock and metal music. Such as in the case of Marilyn Manson and Columbine. Rap is a reflection of the lives of inner city kids, they rap about what they know as such rap is a reflection of our society. Not a problem of music but a problem with our society. In the end it's entertainment, not a philosophy, the people who listen to rap/metal/rock/*insert violent album here* and then go out to kill people have more problems than a CD.

P.S.--I think Eminem's remix of 'Sing for the Moment', and 'The Way I Am' have good ideas on this topic such as--
"When a dude's gettin bullied and shoots up his school
And they blame it on Marilyn... and the heroin
Where were the parents at? And look where it's at
Middle America, now it's a tragedy
Now it's so sad to see, an upper class city
Havin this happenin..."

Rappers are okay in society if they can do it right. Songs like where is the love and such are okay but when it gets dirty and such, kids pick that up. They say they don't, but in the back of their mind it is there. Some say they have edited versions and that is okay, but the theme and suggestions of the song are still there. If they take away the bad words, you know what it would have said.
Anyone who disrespects any president is low in my book, A pres. has to have done something right to get where they are and they are smarter than most of us, too.
Several rappers claim to be gangsters and how hard their life is, it isn't, they are rich or well-off because they get money for the music they make.

That's ridiculous. They don't like cops for racial profiling and for arresting people for victimless crimes such as smoking marijuana. Many people take a lot of rap far too seriously. It's not a tao for life. It's music. And music doesn't "make" teenagers do or think anything. I think hip-hop is great for society as is all art. And you're generalizing. There is a lot of very positive rap. People..stop sheltering your children! There is no substitute for good parenting. You can't blame society, or rappers, for troubled teens.

A lyrical rapper would be someone who raps with meaning not just to make money. A lyrical rapper usually tells a story or what he says may have a massage that means past the lines and it still rhymes. My favorite lyrical rappers are Tupac and Immortal Technique. They both tell stories or explain certain things through song.

I'm not a rap fan myself...but I do think that the lyrics can be quite impressionable to young minds. This problem is not just rap music, take a look at Pop music for example it is full of the same lyrics just sung in a more professional manner. With Pop music if they aren't singing about sex etc..then they are certainly portraying it in their image...name one video clip where Cristina Aguleira is actually covered in clothes instead of scraps of cloth or lingerie...I know I can't think of one. Pre teens and Teenagers are very impressionable and with the music and the clothing etc it is easy to see why they are becoming sexualised younger and bad attitudes.

No.

Were you ever a teenager?

I don't remember ever meeting a teenager with a chaste mind. Teenagers are old enough to have begun developing two things: a healthy sex drive and a set of personal opinions.

No teenager is going to be "corrupted" by a song. The teen will either think, "yeah, that's how I think." or "eew, gross."

I think that if the relatively base lyrics have anything to do with corrupting people, it's kids or those teenagers who were unfortunate to never be taught how to think for themselves. Just a thought.

I think Eminem's style is funny. But most other rappers are still
active gang members, or hang with their homies. I never liked it
I never will. It causes more crime, because teens are easily
influenced. It's bad. It has made alot of blacks rich, just like
basketball....and they piss it away. They don't have God in their
hearts and in their lives. That's when satan will get to them. It's
their own fault. Flashing the "bling" and the women. It's sickening
It's to much "in yo face" Bull Sh*T...

I guess it depends on your personality. A teen who needs to be popular is more influential, and the teens on the other side of the spectrum are less. This counts towards rock too, or any music that isnt loving or nice. I fail to see how music can affect teens, though, considering that most teens DO listen to hip hop and/or rock, and it seems most of them have grown into sane adults.
