What is the definition of insanity? In diagnosing a mental illness, what do you look for? How would you know if someone is actually insane as apposed to being sane and just making things up?

Also, is there any sort of brain activiy that would denote insanity? Does the brain act differently in a sane mind from an insnane mind?

Not a "psyhchologist", however a good working definition of insanity is when a person cannot distinguish between delusional thinking that others agree is reality, and delusional thinking the person believes is reality.

Modern diagnosis of a "mental " illness is done by adding up the behavioral tics of a person and finding these in the big book, and in this book is a name, and that name is what the person is, or has.

Delusional activity is ofen seen as the acftions of a sane person to the person doing them, and this would not be "making things up". You see, it is not ones brain that is the problem, it is ones MIND that is the problem.
